connect 3 x 12v battery’s together to form 36v battery?
bought a 36v e-bike kit off ebay and 3 12v SLA batteries, i need to know how to connect the batteries and what type of charge i will need, thanks 🙂
Connect it in series ie. POS to NEG and end up with a POS and NEG producing 36 volts, if the connecting clips are loose this can cause them to shake free during travel, I found it best to solder any that were doubtful, leave the wires that join them with plenty of length as you will have to try several positions before ending up with the right way to fit into the box, the charger will produce more than 36 volts and when the batteries are fully charged should read around 42 volts. The charger should be the correct one or you could have problems with over charging which can ruin the batteries in a very short time, there should be the correct one with the kit, the wiring in the charger and the battery box should be already connected so that you can simply connect the POS and NEG to the correct terminals in the box for charging, and put the batteries in the best way they fit, if they seem loose pack them round the stop any movement, good luck with the bike mine is the cat’s pyjamas it is so much easier than using the car as the bike tracks and footpaths are less crowded than the roads for distances of 30 or so klm on a round trip.
