i just purchased a 2005 escape-3l-v6 front wheel drive.it has the following manf. tires on it(all seasons)235/70r16. i came across a great deal(i think)on snow tires(goodyear ultragrip-ice)they were used for about 1000kilometers–still have side nibs on them.they came installed on new steel rims a quantity of 4 tires and rims for $200–friends.they came off of a 2003 or 2004 escape.my question is the size of the purchased tires are–225/70r15–bolt pattern on rim is the same–will these work on my 2005 even though they are a smaller tire–my concern i guess is the front calipers–any help would be great!! thanks everyone–rick
DO NOT CHANGE TIRE SIZE. This is not only a saftey concern, the smaller size will confuse your sensors (ABS, VSS to name 2) and will in turn make your trans shift points all stupid. As far as saftey, your suspension components were picked out according to tire size and payload cababilities of the OEM tires. Changing it reduces load capacity therefore changing the handling characteristics of vehicle.
