Suburb of Chicago: need light wheelchair, live on 2nd floor. Where do I find one, cheap or free?
Friend suddenly had amputation. Can’t move from 2nd floor apartment at this time. We can’t carry her heavy wheelchair up the stairs, can’t leave it downstairs, as there is no place to store it and she needs it all the time in her apartment.
I live in the chicagoland area as well. I don’t know of a specific place to send you to. I think you should look through your local paper for people selling a wheelchair. It sounds like you need one of the ultra light folding wheelchairs. Talk to her physican or the local pharmacy. They should be able to guide you in the right direction to help you find something affordable. Her insurance may even cover it.
