How do you disassemble an office chair?
More specifically how do you disconnect the cylinder from the base and seat?
i have had plenty of experience with this as i worked for a company repairing office chairs. Usually the easiest way is to flip it over grab it from where the base and column join (where the bit with wheels joins the bit with the gas cylinder in it) now apply a little spray on lubricant if you have some. Now the brutal bit if you hit with the a hammer quite hard a few times next to the gas cylinder. The cylinder will pop out. Now to get the cylinder out of the base there is a small clip at the bottom of the column which you need to get off, this can be a little tricky as its designed so it wont just pop off. Now remove the cylinder from the column. I take it your replacing the cylinder, place the new cylinder in the seat part first and give a couple of soft hits on the cylinder where the thin part exits the thinner part. Now if it cam with new washer and rubber etc put them on in this ordered if not use old ones Rubber washer, metal washer, ball bearing washer, metal washer now replace column onto cylinder making sure the cylinder pops through a little. put on the really thin washer then that fiddly clip again flip it over job done hope this has helped
