why is there so many baby and handy cap parking spaces at walmart, super heb, target?
today i went to the the new super heb and there were 50 handy cap parking spaces . for mothers with infants what makes a parent
with a small child special lets say a town has 500 people they build a new
super heb and only tw0 people are handicap in the whole town why would you put 50 handicap parking spaces in the parking lot what is
handi cap it is parkinson’s, cerebral palsy or a wheel chair bound person.
not a 75 year old fat woman driving a 2011 lexus or a 75 year old fat man
driving a 2011 dodge ram who is too fat to walk to the store i dont agree
with the stores definition of disabled where are the real handi caped people
in wheelchairs i never see them? i dont like parking at the end of the store
is there too much emphisis placed on handi caped parking at stores?
The short answer is because handicapped spaces are the law. Mother-to-be is a courtesy and usually appears in stores which sell things they will need to buy.
The requirements for handicapped parking spaces are not an isolated decisions by a businesses but are requirements of the ADA, Americans with Disabilities Act. There are specific requirements for the size of the space, the location in the lot so that it is close to the entry door and the identification of the parking spot.
The guidelines dictate that there must be 1:25 spaces accessible to handicapped and of these 1:8 must be available to van parking. However, for parking lots with more than 1,000 spaces such as the stores you mention the guidelines are 1:100 spaces.

Special stickers are required and people without the sticker or license plate are subject to ticketing if they violate the regulations. The sticker process varies from state to state.

There can be people with conditions not readily discernible to your eye which will still qualify a person for a disabled parking sticker. You might not recognize a person with congestive heart failure driving a Lexus but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have a right to a sticker and that parking space.
Pregnancy is not considered a disability (let’s not go there) but many stores provide spaces for these women also because it is a courtesy and recognition of their potential as good customers who may need this service. Some pregnant women might actually qualify for a short term disability given their complications so don’t be too quick to judge.
My husband has Parkinson’s disease and does have some balance issues (it was actually a precursor symptom) He also has arthritis in both knees which often causes him extreme pain.(Thanks to many years pounding the hard concrete floors at HD when he worked there) He walks slowly with a cane and often waits in the car because there is just too much walking. We do not have a disabled sticker because he doesn’t want it. Even when the sticker might have been helpful for him, he didn’t want that identification. So when you get angry at that guy with the cane who takes forever to get out of your way in the parking lot, that’s because he hates the stigma of being labeled as handicapped and because he wants to cling to the hope that he will get better one day.
And please don’t prejudge that “fat woman” or man. Their knees and hearts may be on their last legs. And it might not be because they didn’t stop eating, it could be a metabolic issue or a medication related side effect.
I don’t get it. Are you upset about this because you have to walk a few feet farther or because the parking lot is full except for those few reserved spaces?
Here’s a link to the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles application for a handicapped sticker. Read the criteria and decide if you’d like to have to check any of those boxes. Most of the people who do qualify, would rather be healthier and able to walk the distance.

Here’s what the business owner can control – lack of parking lot shade during the summer. I park at the farthest end of a lot to get the car under some kind of tree or building shadow on those hot days.
