I want to dim a 100W 12V driving light connected to a SLA battery. What kind of dimmer do I need?
I basically want to be able to have the light progressively go from basically emitting no light, to full output. Can I just use a dimmer meant for a standard halogen AC lamp?
Also if you don’t mind… am I correct with this assumption:
100W bulb @ 12 Volt —-> 8.4A (100W/12V)
12V 9AH battery fully charged
expected light output a little over an hour if fully charged.
Ok, I’m not actually looking to dim the driving lights on my car. I’m looking to use a Driving Light as a portable light. I will power it using an SLA battery, and I would like to dim the output in order to have longer battery life and less intense light if 100W turns out to be too much in certain circumstances 
Are you asking how to dim your headlights? Don’t know why you would want to do that, and don’t recommend it do to mounting considerations inside your vehicle and connecting it in series with your headlight control switch, and then there’s the matter of possible problems with your car inspection. Also dimmer switches have a lot of current going through them meaning they would get hot, hot things burn out, so you risk losing your headlights at an inopportune moment.
